Ron Arad Architects at Stacion - Center for Contemporary Art Prishtina
23 May 2013, 18:00
The presentation of Ron Arad Architects at Stacion - Center for Contemporary Art Prishtina will focus on the practice of the studio, projects, the experience of the studio in designing museums and identifying potential buildings for the Jewish Memorial Centre of Kosovo.

Ron Arad Architects was established as an independent practice in May 2008, branching out as a daughter company of the long-established design studio Ron Arad Associates. The two studios share the same building in Chalk Farm in London, and enjoy the frequent overlap of interests, activities and knowledge this proximity offers. The practice comprises a team of architects and architectural assistants, under the directorship of Ron Arad, Caroline Thorman and Asa Bruno, and has recently completed a number of high-profile new-built works, including Mediacité in Liege and the Design Museum Holon in Israel.

Ron Arad Architects’ thinking, form-finding, volumetric design and realisation draws on resources and materials that have been at the source of experimentation by the practice since its inception in 1981 as ‘One-Off Studio.’ The experimentation with and questioning of the limits of construction engineering, the celebration of the integrity and character of the materials employed in projects, and the often radical re-conception of form, are key to the activities of the practice. Supporting this we have extensive experience working at both the large and small scale around the world, and have extensive knowledge of the challenges and opportunities that need to be addressed in architectural projects. We create cohesive solutions that connect people to the built environment through the synthesis of the small with the large; from the small scale of furniture and public art, through to the large scale of the building. We think imaginatively and inventively about the design of public places and buildings and work collaboratively to ensure that solutions fit with our client’s vision and the sites’ constraints and opportunities.

A number of projects are currently at tender stage and are due to go on site in the course of 2012-13.
The practice is currently working on a number of new projects in Italy, USA, Israel and the UK. The practice’s work has also recently been showcased as part of the Ron Arad: No Discipline exhibitions at the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris (November 2008) and the Museum of Modern Art, New York, which was the most visited architecture and design exhibition worldwide in 2009. Most recently the ‘Restless’ exhibition at the Barbican Centre in London (2010) showcased a diverse collection of industrial design, studio pieces and architectural projects. Further exhibitions are scheduled for the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam and the DMH Israel (both in 2013).

The recent completion of both the Mediacité project in Belgium, and the Design Museum Holon in Israel has enjoyed extensive and enthusiastic coverage in the media, from international television coverage in the BBC and ABC News, to lifestyle magazines such as Vogue, Wallpaper, Elle Decoration, Glamour, Grazia and Numéro to architecture, art and design publications such as ArtNews, Blueprint, Architectural Digest, Mark Magazine, Building Design, Interni, to editorial coverage in the New York Times, Time Magazine and The Independent, to name a few.

The presentation of Ron Arad Architects at Stacion - Center for Contemporary Art Prishina is part of the 'Space Program', working module of Stacion - Center for Contemporary Art Prishtina and is part of the Week for Tolerance and Reconciliation organized by the Ministry of Foreign of Kosova and supported by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.
