Summer School as School 2017 Conference
July 15, 2017
Venue: Boxing Club, Mark Isaku str. 10000 Prishtina, Republic of Kosovo

Organized as part of Summer School as School 2017, Regional Forum Discussion, in collaboration with Education Plenum and with support of Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, addresses the issues of parallel developments and extraordinary realities in social, economical and political domain, including education and economic developments in Kosovo with the purpose of highlighting and creating new possibilities for progressive developments in Kosovo and the region of south-eastern Europe.

The conference is organized in the time when one should recognize developments in a parallel education system in Kosovo functioning in the municipalities with Serbian majority population, resembling the Kosovo education system in 1990s. The first panel of the conference aims to present the reality of these parallelisms and how they were perceived from those who participated or worked in those systems. Why did the Kosovo Albanians step out of the public education system of Yugoslavia? Why did Serbs not participate in the Kosovo education system after the war? What does this mean for quality of education? What does it mean for nation and state building? How to go beyond the division towards and integrated education system for the young people in the framework of sustainable development.

Second panel of the Conference will address conflicting approaches and common ambitions of social and political projects in Kosovo, Serbia, and other regional countries. It analises and opens for discussion the privatization process in post 90’s as a process that proclaimed positive transformation but resulted with social injustice and non-equal share of assets and resources.

The case of Trepça can be the start of the process of understanding the privatization in Kosovo which has started with the process of changing of the Constitution of Socialist Autonyms Province of Kosovo in 1989, through the declaration of loyalty of citizens of Kosovo, to the State-ization as the first act of the operation for transformation of ownership, and the process of implementation of the law on privatization implemented after the Independence of Kosovo.
