(Prishtina) Unlimited
Workshop and concerts in the art of improvising music

with

Joel Grip: double bass
Pierre Borel: saxophone

Prishtina, 17-22 October 2011

(Prishtina) Unlimited, a workshop in the art of improvising music, seeks to dig down in the creative process and release it through sound.

Pierre Borel [FR/DE] and Joel Grip [SE/FR] and Stacion - Center for Contemporary Art Prishtina invite interested musicians and artists - all levels of experience - to take part in the workshop daily and as well as giving the possibility to audience and artists to perform in the evenings in informal concert situations in selected venues in Prishtina.

The most active duo in the field of experimental improvised music in Europe today - sprung the wide roar of activities the artistic run Umlaut collective offer - give a week long workshop in the art of improvising and experimenting.

(Prishtina) Unlimited is a non-genre based workshop, meaning that the duo will not try to re-create already fixed sound patterns - like be-bop, free jazz, death metal, gagaku, minimalism, etc - but rather get inspired from them and create a collective un-labeled music.
The workshop include solo, duo, trio playing as well as playing in a larger ensemble.

But above all, most of this entire workshop seeks to question music, yourself and the surrounding society. How to amplify reality, listen to your self and make someone else heard.

The workshop will take place at The Department of Music at The Faculty of Arts of University of Prishtina (3rd floor, Big Hall) daytime, 13:00 - 16:00, followed by live informal concert situations in the evenings at Gege Cafe Bar on Tuesday, October 18th 2011 at 21:00, Dit' e Nat' Cafe Bookshop on Wednesday, October 19th 2011 at 21:00 and Shallter Birrari on Thursday, October 20th 2011 at 21:00.

A final presentation and concert of the workshop will be given at Stacion - Center for Contemporary Art Prishtina on Saturday, October 22nd 2011 at 20.00, giving voice to the new orchestra (Prishtina) Unlimited.

Joel Grip and Pierre Borel
Their music undergoes a constant change - continuous development.
Simultaneously: starting, stopping.
Interrupts. Erupts.
Interacting intuitive energy / intense contemplation.
Audible focus.
A dotted silence questioning the ongoing.
Hits the guts, at the same time welds wounds.
Takes all under consideration.
Then erupts again. Moves on at the moment it stops
and starts all over again.
Improvising:
Music.

Pierre and Joel are both heard in the creative music scenes in Europe at large as well as in North America and Asia. As highly active members of the Umlaut Records collective their focused and individual artistic expressions - as soloists, or group members of small and big ensembles as Peeping Tom, Obliq, SNUS, Pierre Borel Septet, a.o. - are amplified through new means of artist-run organizational work. They are also playing with improvisers like Axel Dörner, Evan Parker, Alan Silva, Burckard Beins, Raymond Strid and many others.

(Prishtina) Unlimited with Joel Grip and Pierre Borel was supported by Goethe Institute, The Swedish Arts Grants Committee, Ricoh and DZG and project media partners Klan Kosova and Urban FM.

(Prishtina) Unlimited with Joel Grip and Pierre Borel is part of Space Program, working module by Stacion - Center of Contemporary Art Prishtina and is organized in collaboration with New Spirit Art Association, Department of Music at The Faculty of Arts of The University of Prishtina, Gege Cafe Bar, Dit' e Nat' Cafe Bookshop and Shallter Birrari.
